If you want to know why the Romanian people fought so hard to escape the communist oppression, pay a visit to the Memorial Museum for the Victims of Communism and you will only begin to understand how damaging the totalitarian regime was and how much pain and suffering it brought in such a short time.
In just one night in 1950, 100 dignitaries from the entire country were thrown in prison, and a few months later, 50 priests fell victims to the same regime, which is how the place came to be known as “The Prison of Ministers”.
In the end, over 50 political prisoners found their deaths here, making it a place of great historical significance that reminds us how important freedom of expression is and how we should make sure nothing like that ever happens again.
